Everybody, it was the popular vogue thing to do, to go to the temple. The great-grandfather of the king in our story this morning had been a good and godly man. We have devoted much more space to our discussion of this chapter than some might consider necessary, but this very chapter is the tap-root of the most destructive criticism of the Bible which Satan ever launched. He is remembered in 2 Kings 21 as one of the worst kings, who “made his son pass through the fire (verse 6; meaning he sacrificed his son) and “shed very much innocent blood” (verse 16).
